My BMW R100RS Motorsport

Most of the information below has been taken from publications of the web, the BMW UK Club Journal and with refernce to my Bike and other R100RS Bikes that I have seen.

What is a BMW R100RS Motorsport
The BMW R100RS Motorsport is a R100RS Special Edition. It is really a paint Scheme that was produced in about July 1978. Apart from the obvious, very attractive colour scheme, in Police White and Rennesport Red with rallysport stripes, the Bike has a unique dark blue seat, (almost black). A rare three quarter seat was an option plus white Krauser Classic Panniers. Talk of blue ATE calipers but not all have them, and the same for blue fuel lines.

Numbers Produced
Reputed 200 Bikes for the US with vin numbers commencing with 618XXXX
Produced for the UK, rumour? ..300, (BMW Club journal May 2001), but this seems high and is not substantiated. It is believed that BMW Germany invited a few, (50), UK BMW dealers to Munich to view the Bikes and ride them back to the UK, (BMW Club Journal May 2001).
Where any produced for mainland Europe?...another rumour....only one for each German BM dealership. The Euro Bikes had vin numbers commencing with 608XXXX.

Specification
Standard R100RS 1978 specification but the US models had 38mm heads, (exhaust) and the Euro models has 40mm heads, (with matching carbs), plus an on_off light switch.

Apparently they came with the side panels, (battery covers), unpainted, (i.e. black), and the 100RS decals were in the tool box so that they could be painted white if the customer took up the option of the white panniers.  Maybe the front and rear mudflaps were special with a gold coloured BM emblem…but I do not know for sure.

Why were they produced
I am not sure, but rumour has it that they were produced for an Austrian Dealership who cancelled the order

It anyone can shed more light I would be grateful if they would email me
