The above is my R90S which when I purchased it had been dry stored for quite a long time and had done less than 3,000 miles since new. It was in "as new as you can get for a 30 year old Bike" condition and, apart from regular fluid changes, has only ever had new tyres and batteries. Click_for_Slide_Show_of_my_Bike
The R90S - a BMW icon
It was produced from 1973 to 1976, (BMW model years start in the August previous to the indicated year). Changes were made every year, but none were major, however enthusiasts are constantly looking for even the most minor of difference between Bikes.
In the first year the Bike was produced only in Smoke Silver, (Code 561), to be followed in 1975 by Daytona Orange, (Code 510). The factory may have produced other colours as "one off" Bikes for special customers. I have only ever seen one such Bike which was painted Silver. The owner told me that it had been that colour from new and was produced for a BMW dealer in Switzerland.........but I would doubt this as i would think that it would have been resprayed after delivery from BMW.
Just under 17,500 units were produced, about 4,000 for the US and 13,500 for other markets, (if you are an anorak exact number are available on the web). Frame numbers started at 4950001 for the US and 4070001 for other markets.
The R90S was replaced by the R100S in 1977.
The above information has been taken from publications on the internet, books that I have read and from my Bike and other Bikes that I have seen
